Sean Collins, PT

Physical Therapist


Sean Collins earned his BS in exercise physiology (1992), MS in physical therapy (1994) and a doctorate in science (ScD) in ergonomics and epidemiology (2003) at the University of Massachusetts. 

He is a professor of physical therapy at Plymouth State University, has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal; and as a consultant for athletic performance and workload monitoring for the UMass Lowell Ice Hockey and the Plymouth State University Soccer programs.

Sean was awarded the Linda Crane Memorial Lecture Award by the American Physical Therapy Association for making outstanding and enduring contributions to the practice of physical therapy for his use of causal models in the analysis of physical therapist decision making; has over 60 publications and has presented at numerous national and international conferences. He is currently working on two books: “Clinical Physiology: A muscle centered approach”; and “Clinical Inquiry: Inductive informed narratives.” He maintains a blog with occasional podcasts at A Peripatetic Physical Therapist: https://peripateticpt.substack.com/ 

Sean’s current clinical interests include the application of movement science and motor learning to the systematic analysis of regional interdependence and has recently been certified in the use of the Selective Functional Movement Assessment.
